Discover the R.U.D. Process for Nervous System Regulation
The R.U.D. Process® – Recognise, Understand, and Diffuse – is a transformative method developed by Yasmin Shaheen-Zaffar to help neurodivergent individuals regulate their nervous systems through creative tracking and self-exploration.
Using reflective scribbles, doodles, colours, shimmies, and shimmers, this process turns self-monitoring into an accessible and enjoyable experience. Rather than focusing on traditional “feelings talk,” the R.U.D. Process emphasises identifying physical states, exploring thought patterns, and noticing body sensations.
Participants use creative mediums to map their experiences, making it especially suited for those with alexithymia or who find emotional language challenging. Integrated tools like the What’s My State? Cards and Track and Scribbledeedo® – Scribbles, Doodles, Colors, Shimmies, and Shimmers – provide practical and engaging ways to apply this method in daily life.
Change happens through increased self-awareness. By engaging in the R.U.D. Process, you’ll begin to monitor your nervous system and behaviours in a way that gathers invaluable insights. This journey will guide you to better understand your unique patterns, enabling you to make meaningful changes in how you respond to life’s challenges.
Over six months, Yasmin will lead you through this journey with compassion and care. In her non-shaming approach, she’ll show you how self-monitoring can become a powerful tool for self-discovery, helping you achieve clarity, balance, and steadiness. The R.U.D. Process® empowers you to step into a deeper connection with yourself and create lasting, positive changes in your life.

Supporting educators’ growth through emotional regulation skills is transformative, not only for their personal well-being but also for fostering steady, thriving classroom environments.
Emotional regulation is foundational to effective teaching, helping educators manage their own stress and co-regulate their students’ nervous systems. Here’s why this is crucial and how The Homestead Model™ for Emotional Regulation supports educators:
Why Emotional Regulation Matters for Educators
- Reducing Burnout: Teaching is emotionally demanding. Emotional regulation tools can help educators manage stress and avoid burnout.
- Improved Student Outcomes: Teachers who are emotionally regulated create environments where students feel safe, which enhances learning.
- Better Relationships: Regulated educators foster healthier, more supportive interactions with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Role Modeling: Teachers serve as emotional role models. Demonstrating self-regulation equips students with lifelong emotional skills.
The Homestead Model™ for Educators: A Framework for Emotional Regulation
The Homestead Model™ focuses on nervous system regulation and practical tools tailored to the unique challenges educators face. The program integrates neurodivergent-affirming practices and supports educators at all stages of their careers.
Key Components of the Program:
Recognising State, Story, and Sensation (The R.U.D. Process)
Educators learn to identify their own nervous system states (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) and shift them, ensuring they respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally in challenging situations.Understanding Sensory Profiles
Each educator identifies their sensory needs and those of their students. For instance, an educator who understands sensory overwhelm can better accommodate neurodivergent learners.Addressing Shame and Invalidation
Educators explore how chronic stress and invalidation impact their professional identities. Tools for unshaming help them embrace their authentic teaching styles and adapt to diverse classroom dynamics.Self-Care and Co-Regulation Strategies
Simple, actionable practices (e.g., breathwork, grounding exercises) that can be integrated into the classroom or staffroom to maintain steadiness.Intersectionality and Inclusivity
The program considers how identity and neurodivergence intersect with teaching experiences, helping educators create truly inclusive spaces.
The Impact:
By equipping educators with tools to regulate their nervous systems, The Homestead Model™ empowers them to:
- Stay steady during conflicts or challenging behaviors.
- Build stronger connections with students and colleagues.
- Model resilience, enhancing the overall culture of emotional safety and growth within their institution.
